After discovering a treasure trove of old journals and notebooks, I found this prompt and response which I’d completely forgotten about. I’m not entirely sure when this was from, but the prompt was: ‘The beauty of this problem is…” The idea was to lead participants into completing a thought I’ve proposed. I think most people understand how a problem overcome is a powerful thing, no matter how much you hated it at the time.
My response is pretty lackluster and rushed, but I think that the prompt is worthy for anyone to consider while facing the struggles of daily life. Maybe answering it for yourself can help you get through the day.
Here is what I wrote:
There’s beauty in struggle. In facing a dilemma and some how mustering the strength to over come it. Few things in life are as fulfilling, and help shape you, as overcoming adversity. I guess that’s the reason that any great story worth its salt has a character who is facing conflict.
I wonder what my life would become if I had no conflict. What if I finally won the lottery? Or found some giant bag of money on my walk home in the rain after a grueling day at work? Can you imagine the ugliness that would come from that? I would grow fat and lazy and pretentious. I would no longer have to worry about money, but I’d most certainly have to be aware about the ugliness that can arise from having nothing else to worry about.
The beauty of struggle? It means you’re still fighting. Means you’re still alive.
